A New Zealand home-educating family built Orbia World to make learning logs simple, honest, and sustainable — so record-keeping supports family life instead of taking it over.
Orbia World started at our kitchen table, surrounded by books, half-finished projects, muddy boots, and multiple children learning in their own ways. We needed a practical way to capture real learning and turn it into clear records if the Ministry of Education ever requests reporting — without spending hours every week doing admin.
When we couldn’t find a tool that truly fit home education (especially unschooling), we decided to build one.
Orbia World is a division of Rautenbach Ltd (New Zealand).

We’re not a big corporation. We’re parents building the tool we wish we’d had — and we want to help other families protect what matters most: time with your kids.

We follow a real-life learning/unschooling approach, so learning happens through everyday life: reading, projects, online platforms, conversations, nature, chores, travel, farm work, and curiosity.
The problem isn't learning — our kids are learning deeply.
The problem is proving it clearly when needed.
When exemptions, reviews, or reports come up, we don't want to find ourselves digging through notebooks, scattered photos, messages, and apps. We can feel the learning, but turning it into something organised and easy to understand takes far too long.
We started building Orbia World to solve our own problem first — creating an easier way to capture learning as it happens, keep records meaningful, and stay ready to share when required.
Now we’re sharing it with other families who want less admin and more actual living and learning.
Hi, we’re Ruaan and Jansi Rautenbach — parents building tools for real family life.
I’m Ruaan, a family man, dad, and open-minded problem solver. I’m an electronic engineer by trade, and over the past few years I’ve focused on custom website development — especially membership portals and systems that securely handle structured information with reliability and care.
Jansi brings the “real home” side of Orbia World. She’s a hands-on mum who understands what day-to-day learning actually looks like — the beautiful chaos, the meaningful moments, and the reality that admin often steals time from what matters. She helps shape Orbia World to be simple, human, and genuinely supportive for families.
Our values are simple: love and respect for all.
In practice, that means:
Real life is real learning. Home education doesn’t need to look like school to be meaningful.
Parents know their kids best. Orbia is here to support your judgment, not replace it.
Admin should stay light. Logging should fit into real life — not become another job.
Trust and privacy matter. Your family’s learning story belongs to you, and software should treat it that way.
Orbia World is being designed to help families:
Capture learning naturally (quick notes, photos, messages)
Organise logs into clear categories over time
Generate readable summaries and reports when needed
Orbia World is not the Ministry of Education, and it’s not legal advice. Every family is different, and you remain responsible for meeting any requirements that apply to your situation — we aim to make record-keeping far easier.
Orbia World is currently in active development. We’re building the first version of the student log app and inviting a small group of founding families to help shape it.
If you join the waitlist, we’ll:
Share honest progress updates
Invite you to early testing when it’s ready
Listen carefully to what works (and what doesn’t) in real family life

Orbia World is built in New Zealand, for New Zealand families first — with a strong focus on making it easier to keep learning records that are clear and usable if the Ministry of Education ever requests reporting. Over time, we plan to expand support for worldschooling and other countries’ reporting needs as well.
We take privacy seriously because learning logs can include personal family details.
We use self-hosted Matomo for website analytics (so we can improve the site without relying on ad-based tracking).
We use self-hosted Mautic to manage our newsletter and founding families lists.
If you choose to message us on WhatsApp, we use the Meta WhatsApp Business API. WhatsApp is optional, and Orbia may store any messages or attachments you send for support and (in future) learning log organisation.
